The game was pioneered by Arch Ward who also started the Major League Baseball All-Star game in Chicago in 1933. In it's 42 year span the game raised $4,000,000 in charity. Most every great college player during that time span played in this game. This program is in outstanding condition. Incredibly detailed 10x15 print, printed directly from the original woodcut method engraving plate in 1878. This print is of the Harvard vs Columbia game in 1878. This is the most detailed visual representation of football 130 years ago showing the uniforms, shoes, beenie caps, referees, crowd, field, goal post etc.. in extraordinarilly accurate detail. This shows a referee wearing a suit and top hat, a player getting his jersey torn off, some players cut their sleeves off. Players did not wear any pads. These woodcut engravings were produced until about 1890 when technology was developed for the less eexpensive printing of halftones of photographs in periodicals. This print is incredibly detailed, so much so that a photo or scan does not do them justice. They are the most detailed and accurate representations of the earliest football teams. An amazing piece in outstanding condition. Ex/Mt+ $110 1890 Princeton Harper's Weekly Woodcut Engraving Print. Richly detailed huge15x22 print, printed directly from the original woodcut method engraving plate in 1890. Shows a fantastic game scene between Princeton University and the Orange Athletic Club in Tuxedo New York. Shows the game in progress, the crowd with their horses and carriages and the hills above the playing field in Tuxedo. The game ended in a scoreless tie. There are 2 very light three quarter inch tears on the right and left borders that will easily be covered by a mat. These woodcut engravings were produced until the early 1890's when technology was developed for the less expensive printing of halftones of photographs in periodicals. These prints are incredibly detailed, so much so that a photo or scan does not do them justice. Has a fold in the center with tiny binding holes where this double page center fold print was bound to the magazine. An amazing piece in outstanding condition. The College All-Star game. Flawless Nr/Mt $25 1947 Carl Fennema University of Washington Football Sweater. "Award Sweaters Manufactured by Lasley Knitting, Seattle". Fennema was a star offensive lineman with the University of Washington and went on the play center in the NFL with the New York Giants. This heavy wool navy blue sweater was Carl Fennema's junior or senior year football sweater judging by the 2 varsity stripes on the left sleeve. After Carl Fennema graduated in 1947 he played 2 seasons with the New York Giants. The condition of this sweater is immaculate and is one of the nicest items we've ever offered. Has "Fennema" stitched into the collar. A terrific piece of Washington Huskies history. Condition is flawless with no stains or holes of any kind. An incredible sporting antique from one of the oldest and greatest football schools in the country. A black sweater with an orange "P" and varsity stripe on the left arm. This is an extremely thick wool letterman's sweater with leather elbow patches and is completely free of moth holes. There is a small repair in the collar and another small repair on the left side near the waist band. Both repairs (especially the left side) are unnoticable. Size is approximately a medium. There are no manufacturers or size tags. This spectacular piece will be the center piece of any vintage Princeton football collection. Ex/Mt $495 1947 Carl Fennema University of Washington Football Letterman's Sweater. "Award Sweaters Manufactured by Lasley Knitting, Seattle". Fennema was a star offensive lineman with the University of Washington and went on the play center in the NFL with the New York Giants. This heavy wool navy blue sweater was Carl Fennema's junior or senior year football sweater judging by the 2 varsity stripes on the left sleeve. After Carl Fennema graduated in 1947 he played 2 seasons with the New York Giants. The condition of this sweater is immaculate and is one of the nicest items we've ever offered. Vintage Football Memorabilia 1878 Harvard versus Columbia Harper's Weekly Woodcut Engraving Print. Incredibly detailed 10x15 print, printed directly from the original woodcut method engraving plate in 1878. This print is of the Harvard vs Columbia game in 1878. This is the most detailed visual representation of football 130 years ago showing the uniforms, shoes, beenie caps, referees, crowd, field, goal post etc.. in extraordinarilly accurate detail. This shows a referee wearing a suit and top hat, a player getting his jersey torn off, some players cut their sleeves off. Players did not wear any pads. These woodcut engravings were produced until about 1890 when technology was developed for the less eexpensive printing of halftones of photographs in periodicals. This print is incredibly detailed, so much so that a photo or scan does not do them justice. They are the most detailed and accurate representations of the earliest football teams. An amazing piece in outstanding condition. Ex/Mt+ $110 1890 Princeton Harper's Weekly Woodcut Engraving Print. Richly detailed huge15x22 print, printed directly from the original woodcut method engraving plate in 1890. Shows a fantastic game scene between Princeton University and the Orange Athletic Club in Tuxedo New York. Shows the game in progress, the crowd with their horses and carriages and the hills above the playing field in Tuxedo. The game ended in a scoreless tie. There are 2 very light three quarter inch tears on the right and left borders that will easily be covered by a mat. These woodcut engravings were produced until the early 1890's when technology was developed for the less expensive printing of halftones of photographs in periodicals. These prints are incredibly detailed, so much so that a photo or scan does not do them justice. Has a fold in the center with tiny binding holes where this double page center fold print was bound to the magazine. An amazing piece in outstanding condition. 1963 Letter from Larry MacPhail, Actually two letters. The first is a letter from baseball pioneer and Hall of Famer Larry MacPhail to early football legend Clark Shaughnessy. The second is a copy of the letter to MacPhail from Clark Shaughnessy who coached the Los Angeles Rams to the NFL Championship game in 1949 and played with U of Minnesota from 1910-14. The letters are all football content, discussing the future of the AFL, football gambling, Pete Rozelle, George Halas and MacPhail recognizes Shaughnessy's contribution to Pro Football; "You have contributed more than anyone I know to the development of the game". The letter from MacPhail to Shaughnessy is original, has a nice letter head and is signed "Larry" above the L.S. MacPhail in ball point pen.
