This amazing collection of wire photos encompasses 50 incredible years of track and field. There are many olympians, collegiate stars, and record holders. Many photo's are one of a kind and most have news service stamps and the wire story on the back.

1930's-40's Gunder Hägg Crosses Finish Line. 7x9. API press stamp on back. This photo is of Gunder Hägg, one of the most famous Swedish middle distance runners and the world record holder from about 1942. The second man is Arne Andersson. Has paste & paper residue on back. Ex $25

1940 Gene Venzke Beats Glenn Cunningham in the Mile by One Foot. 8x11 wire photo. One of the great track & field rivals of all time. This was in Boston at the VFW Invitational. AP wire story on front. Great condition. Ex/Mt $25

1946 Terry Haws, George Beaman & Pat Flowers Wire Photo. 7x9 wire photo. University of California's Haws beats USC's Beaman and Cal's Flowers in the 220 yard dash at the Trojan Track Meet in Los Angeles. AP wire story on front. Great condition. Ex/Mt $25

1948 Compton JC Bill Fell Photo. 8x10. Shows Fell winning a 100 Yard Dash. Fell was the fastest high school and Junior College runner in California in 1948. He was also part of the 1948 Compton Tartars JC football backfield that also featured NFL Hall of Famer Hugh McElhenny. McElhenny gained 1298 yards and Fell gained 755 yards in a season where Compton won the JC National Championship and beat Duluth in the Jr. Rose Bowl 58-14. Fell went on to play football and run track at the University of Oregon where he was an All-American in 1950 and ran the fastest 100 in the Pacific Coast Conference. He ran track at Oregon until 1953 and played football at Oregon 1949-50-51. My theory is football injuries kept him off the Olympic team in 1952. Very nice condition. Ex/Mt $30

1948 Compton JC Bill Fell Photo and Original Negative. 8x10 photo and 4x5 negative. Same photo as above showing Fell winning a 100 Yard Race. The photo is a recent reprint from this original negative. Very nice condition. Ex/Mt $30

1948 Gerard Cote Wire Photo. 8x10. Shows Cote winning a race at the 1948 Los Angeles Coliseum Relays. Cote was a French Canadian who won the Boston Marathon 4 times including 1940, 1943, 1944 and 1948. Photographers stamp on back. Very nice condition. Ex/Mt $25

1950 University of Alabama's Charlie Davis Photo. 6 1/2 x 8 1/2. Shows Davis in his University of Alabama uniform. On back there are handwritten notes including 440 - best time 48.1 seconds. Undefeated in Dual Meets for 2 years. Very nice condition. Ex/Mt $25

1951 Missouri's Bill McGuire Wire Photo. 6 1/2 x 8 1/2. Shows McGuire in his Missouri uniform. McGuire was the best middle distance runner in the Big 7 Conference from 1949-51. Wire story on back. Very nice condition. Ex/Mt $25

1953 Villanova's Fred Dwyer Wire Photo. 8x10. Shows Dwyer winning a mile relay race. Dwyer was amongst the best milers in the world during the early to mid 1950's and was the long time Villanova track & field coach. Dwyer won the Wanamaker Mile in 1953. Photographers stamp on back. 1956 Oregon's Bill Dellinger Wire Photo. 8x10. Shows Dellinger winning the 5000 at the 1956 Olympic Trials. Dellinger was a 3 time Olympian winning bronze in Tokyo in 1964. Has wire story on the front and news service stamp on back. Very nice condition. Ex/Mt $25

1960's-70's George Stanich Photo. 8x10 photo of Stanich circa 1948, printed in the 1960's or 70's. Has studio stamps on back. Stanich was one of the greatest athletes in the world in the 1940's-50's. He was an All-American basketball player at UCLA, won a bronze medal in the high jump at the 1948 Olympics and was a pitcher with the Oakland Oaks in the Pacific Coast League in 1950.
