1944 George Susce Cleveland Indians Coaching Contract, Beautiful standard 4 page American League contract signed by team president & former great shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh. Susce's personal copy Ex/Mt $125 1950 Vern Taylor Contract Assignment Document. A Uniform Agreement for the Assignment of Vern Taylor's contract from the Toronto Maple Leaf's to the St. Louis Browns on November 17th 1950. Signed by the St. Louis Browns owner and general manager Bill DeWitt who is the father of current Cardinals GM Bill DeWitt Jr. The Senior Bill DeWitt was an outstanding GM with St. Louis, Detroit and Cincinnati making some of the most astute trades in history and bringing his teams to the World Series (Browns in 1944 and Reds in 1961). Also includes the onion skin copy of the letter from Commisioner Happy Chandler's office to the Toronto team. Very nice items. Ex+ $85 1962 Cleveland Indians Letter. The club copy of the document informing Joe Lis that his contract was being transfered from Tacoma to the Minnesota Twins on March 29th 1973. Prescott played in the AL with the Kansas City A's but is best known for a professional playing career that spanned 28 years! He averaged nearly 40 home runs a year during a 5 year span in the Mexican Leagues from 1964-68. He played in the PCL from 1955-62 with Hollywood, Phoenix, Spokane & Hawaii. Sept 16 1964 the players from double A and single A got called up to the triple A team in Tacoma whose roster had just been depleted due to September call up's to the San Francisco Giants. This agreement calls up 5 players from El Paso of the Texas League, most notably Norm Larker who had several excellent big league seasons (batted .323 with the Dodgers in 1961). Also called up were Carl Boles, Joe Sparks, Andrew Erickson and Gerald Thomas. Nr/Mt $40 sold 1964 Tacoma Giants Minor League Player Transfer Agreement. Sept 16 1964 the players from double A and single A got called up to the triple A team in Tacoma whose roster had just been depleted due to September call up's to the San Francisco Giants. This agreement calls up 3 players from Fresno of the California League, most notably Hector Torres who played for 9 years in the Major Leagues. Also called up were David McKenzie and Vince DeMar. The agreement was signed by former Giants star pitcher Rosy Ryan who pitched in 3 World Series 1922-23-24. Nr/Mt $35 1970 Hawaii Islanders Letterhead. 1946 Mexican League Playing Contract. For Ramon Mendoza of the Saltillo team. Mendoza played in the Mexican Leagues from 1942-58 batting .334 with 26 home runs in 1956 and .355 in 1957. He also played with El Paso (Texas League) from 1950-53. Ex/Mt $45 1946 Mexican League Playing Contract. Manuel Echeverria of Juarez. Echeverria had a long career in the Mexican League and Minor Leagues during the 1930's-50's. In 1950 he won 28 games playing for Mexicali. Signed by Echeverria and the team president and has the stamped signature of the president of the National Association ,W.G. Bramham. Echeverria was elected to the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982.Very nice. Ex/Mt $55 sold 1946 Mexican League Playing Contract. Marcos Valdez of Juarez. Valdez was elected to the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986. Valdez had a long caerer in the Mexican league aand also played for Monterrey and Veracruz during the 1930's and 40's. Felipe Hernandez had a great career in the Mexican Leagues, He played with the Mexico City Reds from 1954-60 and batted a career best .383 in 1955. Batted .381 with 142 RBI's in 1950. Ventura Morales had many excellent years in the Mexican Leagues. Played 5 seasons with El Paso (1950-54) and hit .341 with 24 home runs and 118 RBI's in 1954. Nice condition. Claudio had a great career in the Mexican Leagues from 1945-68. He played with San Diego of the PCL in 1945. In 1954 he batted .394 with 47 home runs and 188 RBI's and in 1957 he batted .402 with 41 home runs and 157 RBI's. Elected to the Mexican baseball hall of fame in 1983. Very nice. Ex/Mt $55 sold 1962 Venezuelan League Playing Contract. Aquiles Gomez of Pampero. Gomez had outstanding years in the Mexican Leagues. In 1957 he batted .374 with 24 home runs for Nogales. Nicely signed by Gomez, the teams General Manager and the league presendent. A great piece of Venezuelan baseball history. Superb condition. Ex/Mt+ $50 1962 Puerto Rico Winter League Playing Contract, for Nate Oliver. Oliver played 5 years with the Dodgers including the 1966 World Series. He also played with the Cubs, Giants & Yankees. This contract is not signed. It was probably tendered with modifications requiring a new document. Ex/Mt $50 1963 Puerto Rican Winter League Consent Document, for Luis Peraza giving him permission to play winter league baseball when he was under contract by the Los Angeles Angels. Eddie Mulligan was the president of the California League for over 20 years. He was also a shortstop and 2nd baseman with the Cubs and White Sox during the teens and twenties but is best know for his career in the old Pacific Coast League where he played for 17 years (1919-38) and is a member of the PCL Hall of Fame. Letter is to National Association president George Trautman regarding schedule, league constitution and umpires. A fun and signifigant contract because Mario Mendoza is the player that the "Mendoza Line" was named after. If you are hitting below .200 you are hitting below the Mendoza line. This phrase was popularized by Chris Berman and is now etched into baseball lingo. The contract is for Sherbrooke, Quebec of the Eastern League, ironically where Mendoza enjoyed his best professional season, batting .268. Mendoza broke in with the play-off bound Pittsburgh Pirates in 1974 and compiled a .215 lifetime batting average in 9 major league seasons. Signed by Mendoza and team president. Ex/Mt $65 |
