Very nice condition. Ex/Mt $50 1937 World Series Program. New York Yankees vs. New York Giants at the Polo Grounds. Game Four. Very nice 24 page program loaded with photos, bio's, ads. Score pages have starting pitchers and catchers noted (Hubbell vs Gomez) along with "Giants won 7-1, Gehrig hit a homer". The Giants actually won 7-3 and this would turn out to be the final home run Lou Gehrig would hit in a World Series. This program has an excellent spine, the only flaw of note is the corner tear on the right bottom corner of the cover and first page. Very nice. Ex+ $195 1938 New York Giants vs St. Louis Cardinals. At New York. The Giants have Mel Ott, Carl Hubbard, Joe Moore etc.. The Cards have Joe Medwick, Enos Slaughter, Pepper Martin, Johnny Mize etc.. Frank Frisch and Bill Terry are managers. 12 page program has some browning and discoloration but the spine is excellent and the overall condition is excellent. Nicely scored. Ex $50 1939 Goldsmith Scorebook from Portland Oregon City League. Superb 120 page spiral bound scorebook with the 1939 season filling about a quarter of the score book. The season begins in May and extends through August. The teams include Pointer-Willamette, Oregon Electric, Willamette Hyster, Commercial Iron, Beaverton, Southeast Fuel, Wool of the West, Blue Flame Gas Co, Lipman Wolfe etc.. The home team is Pointer Willamette. Has a couple of pages of baseball equipment ad's. A wonderful scorebook. If someone took the time to go to a Portland library they could find all these games on micro film in the Portland Newspapers. Very nice condition. Nice overall condition with general wear. The covers and the first and last pages show border wear. The top border of the front cover has several tears. The inside pages are terrific with the center score page loose. The game is nicely scored and has numerous great ads. Has great photos and bio's of each team. Has nice page devoted to the Yankees serving in WW2 including DiMaggio, Selkirk, Ruffing, Henrich, Rizutto etc.. This scorecard/program was originally for an exhibition game between the Cubs and Indians however the person who attended the game and scored the program wrote in National and American League line-ups that included Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Vern Stephens, Red Rolfe, Tom Henrich, Charlie Keller, Billy Herman and Vic Raschi for the Americans and Stan Hack, Jackie Robinson, Stan Musial, Al Dark, Gil Hodges, Bobby Thomson, Ernie Lombardi and Barney McCosky for the Nationals. Perhaps both games were played on the same day. The Nationals won 8-3. The front cover has a 2" tear and the spine is split and repaired with vintage tape. The four publications are 1938 Official Baseball Rules, A superb 1942 "Official Baseball Book" by The Sporting News with Joe Hill pictured on the cover, a 1948 Sporting News Ready Reckoner which allowed broadcasters to figure statistics, averages and percentages instantly. It is signed on the cover by Joe Hill and finally a 1951 "Batting Averages at a Glance" book by the Sporting News which allowed broadcasters to figure batting average instantly. It has been rebound by Joe Hill. Overall excellent condition. $75 1930's-40's Baseball Publications from the Collection of Baseball Announcer Joe Hill. Joe Hill was the baseball announcer of the Rochester Red Wings during the 1930's-50's. These two publications were both used by Joe Hill and are both autographed on the cover by him. The 1939 book is entitled "A Century of Baseball" and includes many true and funny stories. The 1940 publication is The Sporting News "Ready Reckoner" which is a guide that calculates baseball statistics, averages and percentages at your finger tips made especially for baseball announcers. Plain ticket with thumb tack hole. Ex $15 1941 Brooklyn Dodgers vs New York Yankees World Series Ticket. Game 2 at Yankee Stadium. 1941 was Brooklyn's first World Series appearance since 1916 and game 2 was Brooklyn's only win as Whit Wyatt beat the Yankees Spud Chandler 3-2. Four of the five games were pitchers duels and in game 3 pitcher Marius Russo hit a ball off of Freddie Fitzsimmon's kneecap. Pee Wee Reese caught the ricochet for the final out of the 7th inning and preserved a scoreless tie but the line drive broke Fitzsimmons kneecap and his replacement gave up 2 runs and the Dodgers lost game three 2-1. Game four is known for Mickey Owen's boner as the Dodgers blew a 5-4 ninth inning lead and in game 5 the Yankees Tiny Bonham outdueled Whit Wyatt 3-1 to close out the series four games to one. This ticket is in very nice condition. It's large (2 1/4" x 4"). It has one tiny pin hole and has no creases. The Yankees won games 2 and 3 by lopsided scores of 16-2 and 10-0 making it appear that this would be another easy Series for the Yankees, then after game 6 which the Yankees won 12-0, it set the stage for possibly the most improbable comeback in World series history in game 7.
