The season begins in May and extends through August. The teams include Pointer-Willamette, Oregon Electric, Willamette Hyster, Commercial Iron, Beaverton, Southeast Fuel, Wool of the West, Blue Flame Gas Co, Lipman Wolfe etc.. The home team is Pointer Willamette. Has a couple of pages of baseball equipment ad's. A wonderful scorebook. If someone took the time to go to a Portland library they could find all these games on micro film in the Portland Newspapers. Very nice condition. This scorecard/program was originally for an exhibition game between the Cubs and Indians however the person who attended the game and scored the program wrote in National and American League line-ups that included Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Vern Stephens, Red Rolfe, Tom Henrich, Charlie Keller, Billy Herman and Vic Raschi for the Americans and Stan Hack, Jackie Robinson, Stan Musial, Al Dark, Gil Hodges, Bobby Thomson, Ernie Lombardi and Barney McCosky for the Nationals. Perhaps both games were played on the same day. The Nationals won 8-3. The front cover has a 2" tear and the spine is split and repaired with vintage tape. This includes both the 1971 first game ever played at Veterans Stadium and the 2003 last game ever played at Veterans Stadium game programs. Veterans Stadium opened in 1971 and hosted the Phillies through the 2003 seasons bridging the Phillies home from Connie Mack studium (built in 1909) to the current Citizens Bank Park. The only other ballpark the Phillies played in was the Baker Bowl (from 1887 to 1938). These historic programs are in pristine condition. The 2003 program comes with a separate scorecard. 1930's-50's Baseball Publication Collection from Baseball Announcer Joe Hill. Joe Hill was the baseball announcer of the Rochester Red Wings during the 1930's-50's. The four publications are 1938 Official Baseball Rules, A superb 1942 "Official Baseball Book" by The Sporting News with Joe Hill pictured on the cover, a 1948 Sporting News Ready Reckoner which allowed broadcasters to figure statistics, averages and percentages instantly. It is signed on the cover by Joe Hill and finally a 1951 "Batting Averages at a Glance" book by the Sporting News which allowed broadcasters to figure batting average instantly. The four publications are 1938 Official Baseball Rules, A superb 1942 "Official Baseball Book" by The Sporting News with Joe Hill pictured on the cover, a 1948 Sporting News Ready Reckoner which allowed broadcasters to figure statistics, averages and percentages instantly. It is signed on the cover by Joe Hill and finally a 1951 "Batting Averages at a Glance" book by the Sporting News which allowed broadcasters to figure batting average instantly. Game 2 at Yankee Stadium. 1941 was Brooklyn's first World Series appearance since 1916 and game 2 was Brooklyn's only win as Whit Wyatt beat the Yankees Spud Chandler 3-2. Four of the five games were pitchers duels and in game 3 pitcher Marius Russo hit a ball off of Freddie Fitzsimmon's kneecap. Pee Wee Reese caught the ricochet for the final out of the 7th inning and preserved a scoreless tie but the line drive broke Fitzsimmons kneecap and his replacement gave up 2 runs and the Dodgers lost game three 2-1. Game four is known for Mickey Owen's boner as the Dodgers blew a 5-4 ninth inning lead and in game 5 the Yankees Tiny Bonham outdueled Whit Wyatt 3-1 to close out the series four games to one. This ticket is in very nice condition. It's large (2 1/4" x 4"). It has one tiny pin hole and has no creases. The Yankees won games 2 and 3 by lopsided scores of 16-2 and 10-0 making it appear that this would be another easy Series for the Yankees, then after game 6 which the Yankees won 12-0, it set the stage for possibly the most improbable comeback in World series history in game 7.
