1930's A. Rankin Johnson Jr. and A. Rankin Johnson Sr. Collection. This collection comes with 4 items that nicely chronicle the baseball lives of one of baseball's lesser known father and son duo's. First there are two 1936 telegrams, one from hall of fame Yankees General Manager George Weiss to yankees scout Joe Devine letting Devine know that Rankin Johnson Jr. can't change teams until next season. The next telegram (dated a day later) from Rankin Johnson Jr. to Joe Devine letting Devine know that he (Rankin Johnson Jr.) is way too good for this league. The telegram from George Weiss mentions the senior Rankin Johnson. The third item is an index card autographed by Rankin Johnson Sr. noting all the teams he played with including the Red Sox in 1914, The Chicago Federals in 1914-15, The Baltimore Federals in 1915 and the St. Louis Cardinals in 1918. (Rankin Sr. led the Federal League in ERA in 1914). The 4th item is an 8x10 photo of Rankin Johnson Jr. taken by George Brace and printed in the 1990's from the original negative.
