1899 Spalding Baseball Equipment Ad. A very large and spectacular ad showing a batter and a catcher and numerous pieces of baseball equipment. The batter is wearing a collared shirt, quilted pants, high top cleats and a short brimmed cap. Shows a workman style fielders glove, catchers equipment etc.. 2 color. A classic ad. Shows Ty Cobb spearing a line drive plus has testimonials of 10 players who use the Rawlings Bill Doak glove including Earle Combs, Flint Rehm and Wild Bill Sherdel. Ad has very light center fold. This ad features "King Carl" with smaller photos of 9 additional sports stars including Lefty Grove, Jimmie Foxx, Mel Ott, Lefty Gomez etc.. One of the nicest ad's ever. A beautiful full color ad showing Eddie Collins receiving his Most Valuable Players award for 1914, a Chalmers automobile. Vintage Baseball Memorabilia 1865 Harper's Weekly Woodcut Engraving Print of the Philadelphia Athletics and Brooklyn Atlantics. Richly detailed 10x15 print, printed directly from the original woodcut method engraving plate in 1865 showing the teams who played in the championship. This print is the rarest of all the Harper's baseball woodcuts. These woodcut engravings were produced until about 1890 when technology was developed for the inexpensive printing of halftones of photographs in periodicals. This print is incredibly detailed, so much so that a photo or scan does not do them justice. They are the most detailed and accurate representations of the earliest baseball teams. The Boston Red Stockings came into being in 1871 when the first professional league (National Association) began play. The previously professional Cincinnati Red Stockings decided to revert to amateur status so their 4 best players (led by Harry Wright) started the Boston franchise. In 1876 the National Association became the National League, in the late 1880's the team changed it's nick name to the "Beaneaters" then changed again to the "Braves" in about 1905. The 1883 team included John Burdock, John Morrill and their lone pitcher Jim Whitney who won 37 games. Boston won their 7th championship in 1883. I had Joe Hauser sign this beautiful postcard several years ago because he grew up near Randolph Wisconsin where this card is postmarked and was playing baseball as a youth in 1911. The postcard is an incredibly detailed embossed relief postcard showing a pitcher with 3 players behind him and wooden stands full of people. This 10 3/4 x 14 1/2 inch tray has incredibly detailed lithography. The serving surface is in remarkable condition. Nice manufacturers labeling. Jacob Ruppert was the owner of the New York Yankees from 1914-39 and was responsible for trading for Babe Ruth and developing the Yankees into the greatest baseball franchise. Tony Inso in front of the Fort Wright baseball field scoreboard in Washington state. Chambers sent this photo to Brenner while Brenner was playing with the Los Angeles Angels in 1945. Chambers and Brenner were teammates with the Los Angeles Angels in 1946 and Chambers won 24 games in 1947. Chambers played with the Cubs, Pirates and Cardinals during the 1940's-50's. Chambers autographed the photo on the front and wrote a letter to Don Brenner on the back noting that he had 40 strikeouts in 2 games pitching for the US Army team in 1945. Outstanding condition. The Seattle Pilots moved to Milwaukee after one season because of Seattle's undersized but beautiful ballpark and rainy weather. The photo is in Near Mint condition. $65 1940's Stan Musial Photo Reprinted from the Original Negative in the 1970's. 11x14 photo of Stan Musial batting during an exhibition game in Houston Texas during the 1940's. Has the photographers studio decal in the bottom corner. The photo has lots of edge wear with some border tears but will mat and frame nicely.
